FBC History
In the spring of 2009, a small group of believers began to meet and conduct church services. They met a few times on the far east side of Rockford until they were able to secure a more local and adequate facility. The Flora Grange became the location for this new ministry. Wes Hulstedt was asked to come on a weekly basis to preach and oversee this new work. On July 19, 2009, this small group of believers voted to name this new work FAITH BAPTIST CHURCH of Belvidere.
Pastor Hulsted and the deacons diligently prayed as they worked on creating our Constitution, Statement of Faith and Church Covenant. On July 31st, 2011, our Church voted to accept the Constitution, Statement of Faith and the Church Covenant. Soon after we accepted the Constitution, we began the process of Charter Membership. On September 11th, 2011, 54 Charter Members were voted into the membership of Faith Baptist Church.
On September 13, 2009, Faith Baptist Church called Wes Hulstedt as their interim Pastor. Pastor Wes served in that capacity until May 20th, 2012, at which time he was unanimously called as our Pastor. As our church began to grow, we saw the need for a permanent building for our congregation. With much prayer and the approval of the congregation, Pastor and the deacons started looking for a facility and properties to purchase. It is interesting how the Lord closed doors of different properties that we pursued. Pastor kept encouraging us not to go ahead of the Lord, nor lag behind, but to wait upon His leading.
On March 18th, 2012, Faith Baptist Church voted to purchase the Calvary Baptist building at 1637 7th Avenue in Belvidere. A contract was signed by officers from both churches on March 26, 2012. The actual purchase of our new building took place on Wednesday, May 2, 2012. We are thankful for the space that God has given us to continue his work.
Pastor Hulstedt retired in December of 2013 and the Church called Pastor Jeremy Weary in July of 2014 as the second pastor of FBC.
